The 2025 Australian Open is the first Grand Slam of the year, providing the best players in the game with a chance to secure silverware immediately.
Jannik Sinner is the reigning champion, and he is also at the head of the betting at 1.95 with Stake, but is he the player to back as we head into the second week of the competition?
Australian Open Winner | Odds |
---|---|
Jannik Sinner | 1.95 |
Carlos Alcaraz | 3.10 |
Novak Djokovic | 6.60 |
Alexander Zverev | 6.80 |
Alex De Minaur | 26.00 |
Ben Shelton | 40.00 |
Holger Rune | 45.00 |
Rest of the field | 50.00+ |
The new tennis season starts as the 2024 campaign ended, with Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic dominating the top of the betting. Sinner is the reigning champion and arrives as the favourite at 1.95, but he has both Alcaraz and Djokovic right behind him.
The trio continue to prove they are the best the men's game has to offer. Indeed, Sinner won in Australia and the USA last year, while Alcaraz won in France and at Wimbledon. Meanwhile, Djokovic secured Olympic gold to ensure he took home a major piece of silverware in 2024.
The second week of the Australian Open will continue to put the trio to the test, with the trailing pack looking to keep up. Alexader Zverev looks the most likely to seriously challenge the three, but it will be incredibly difficult for him to break their dominance.
Of course, it is worth bearing in mind that the break between the end of last season and the start of this one will takes a toll on some players. Some start slowly, meaning that a tight contest in the opening days may see them come out on the wrong side of the result.
Similarly, some players start quickly but struggle to keep the intensity up throughout the year. This can mean that the first few competitions provide them with their best chance to win silverware.
The exploits of Novak Djokovic this season will also be incredibly interesting. The Serb struggled in Grand Slam events, making just one final as he was beaten by Alcaraz at Wimbledon. This came after he won three of the four Slams in 2023. Djokovic will be desperate to ensure that he starts 2025 as he means to go on.
