Wales vs England Preview & Tips

Wales were handed a 35-29 loss at the hands of Scotland in their last game as they sank to their fourth successive loss in the Six Nations in 2025.

England beat Italy 47-24 to keep their hopes of winning the competition alive heading into the final weekend.

England have won seven of their last 10 against Wales, with the Welsh winning three times.

Wales have been building with each performance in the 2025 Six Nations, with the side looking like a stronger proposition following the resignation of head coach Warren Gatland.

Their 43-0 loss to France on opening night was followed by a 22-15 loss to Italy that saw Wales sink to the bottom of the table with the wooden spoon beckoning. Their 27-18 loss to Ireland was a big improvement on their previous two games as they put the Grand Slam champions under some real pressure. Against Scotland, Wales rallied from 28-8 down at half-time to eventually lose 35-29 as they pushed their hosts hard.

Their makeshift backline will once again be tested this week, with a lack of experience and players playing out of position not ideal. However, with their long losing run only increasing, this could be the perfect situation for Wales to finally get back to winning ways.

The Welsh always take their game up a level against England, while playing at the Principality Stadium will provide a vociferous atmosphere. While I predict that Wales will lose, I back them to only do so by a handful of points.

England Form

Despite slipping to a 27-22 defeat at the hands of Ireland on the opening weekend, England find themselves in the mix to win the Championship.

Victory in this match would put them on 19 points before leaders France play. Most expect Ireland to beat Italy with a try-scoring bonus point, meaning they would move onto 19 points. England's points difference currently sits at +20, while Ireland's is +13. Ireland will likely beat Italy handsomely, meaning England will need a try-scoring bonus point to move clear on 20 points. Then, it is a matter of hoping Scotland can do them a favour by denying France victory in the final game.

Interestingly, the injury to Ollie Lawrence means Tommy Freeman has been deployed in the centre. Freeman has been scoring tries at will in the Six Nations, with four so far. His fast and powerful presence on the wing has caused defenders all kinds of problems, and England will hope that he can burst through some soft shoulders in the middle of the park this week.

England's last two wins over Wales have been by two points, and I back this one to be close. Wales will relish the chance to deny England the Championship, and this English side has not done enough to convince me that they are ready to put their foot down on the accelerator and really beat Wales.

I am backing Tommy Freeman to get another try to cap off an excellent individual campaign. I back England to win this match, but I believe it will be very tight.
