France vs Scotland Preview & Tips

France secured the win of the Six Nations so far last weekend, with the side downing reigning Grand Slam champions 42-27 in Dublin.

France have won six of their last 10 against Scotland, with the Scottish winning four times.

France have the Six Nations title within their reach this weekend after defeating Ireland in Dublin to move to the top of the table.

Their loss to England in round two now feels like a long time ago after stunning wins against Italy and Ireland. While England and Ireland are still in with a chance of securing the title, France know they simply have to win their final game to move onto 20 points. Even if England are to beat Wales with a bonus point to secure 20 points, France's +106 points difference is so superior to England (+20) and Ireland (+13), that it will likely see them secure the title anyway.

While France have had their issues against Scotland in the past, three of Scotland's last four wins have come at Murrayfield. Louis Bielle-Biarrey continues to impress with the ball in hand, scoring seven tries, with the winger hurtling towards ending the tournament as the top try scorer.

The focus for France in this match will be on managing the pressure that winning the Championship in front of their own fans will bring. Scotland will go hard at the French, but the home side know they are the favourites to win the match and the competition, and I do not predict that they will slip to defeat this week.

Despite beating Wales in their last outing, there are still a number of question markets hanging over a Scottish side that will likely finish someway short of the top of the table once again.

Against Wales, Scotland went in at half-time boasting a commanding 28-8 lead. Many tipped them to kick on, but they were pegged back multiple times by Wales, who threatened to end their losing run before slipping to a 35-29 loss. While Wales were very plucky across the game, Scotland should have put their opponents away, but they struggled to land a knockout blow.

While the travelling side will give the French some issues, their own problems on the pitch will likely come back to haunt them. Too many individual errors have cost them points and wins across the competition.

Against Ireland, Scotland were timid with and without the ball as they were easily swatted aside. Their defeat to England almost ended in a win, but Finn Russell pulled his last-minute conversion, thus seeing England win by a single point. Had either of these matches ended differently, Scotland would be in a straight shootout with France for the title.

As it is, Scotland are battling to finish higher than fourth in the table. However, with the French fighting for silverware, I predict that Scotland will merely be bystanders as the home fans celebrate winning the Six Nations.
