Newcastle United vs Brentford Tips & Preview - Magpies to soar past tricky Bees
- Newcastle United recently won the Carabao Cup, ending a 70-year trophy drought.
- Magpies aiming for a UEFA Champions League spot, with Isak leading the attack.
- Brentford won their last away game but have struggled against higher-ranked teams recently.

Newcastle United vs Brentford
Fresh from their Carabao Cup triumph, Newcastle United return to English Premier League action with a midweek home clash with Brentford.
The visitors have done well on their recent travels and boast the quality to make things tricky. However, the Magpies will be on a high after their cup win and should extend their fine record against the Bees.
Newcastle United Form
Newcastle ended a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy after claiming a 2-1 victory over Liverpool to win the Carabao Cup. Goals in each half from Dan Burn and Alexander Isak were enough to earn the win despite a late blitz from the Reds.
The task for Newcastle United now will be to push for a UEFA Champions League place as they sit two points off the top four. Eddie Howe’s men have won two of their last three Premier League matches and picked up a 4-3 victory over Nottingham Forest in their previous home fixture in the league.
Isak is set to be a major target for some of Europe’s big guns in the summer but for now remains the leading scorer for Newcastle United with 19 Premier League goals. He leads an attack that has scored the first goal in four of the last six matches in the league.
Brentford Form
Brentford head into Wednesday’s clash off the back of a 2-1 victory at Bournemouth in their previous Premier League fixture. That was a vital result for the Bees as it ended a run of two matches without a win.
The Bees may be in the bottom half of the table but still have hopes of securing a place in Europe next season. Thomas Frank’s men are just seven points off the top six and can move within three of Newcastle with a win on Wednesday.
The win at Bournemouth also extends a solid away record for Brentford, who have now won their last five Premier League matches on the road. However, they have only beaten teams below them having lost at Aston Villa and Chelsea lately.
Head to Head
Newcastle United often get the better of Brentford and have won six or the last seven matches. The Magpies suffered a 4-2 away defeat in the reverse fixture but claimed a 3-1 home victory in the League Cup in December.
Verdict
Newcastle United will be feeling confident heading into Wednesday’s clash having won their last three home matches against Brentford. They should extend that record in this one and are expected to earn the win.
The Magpies have a habit of scoring first and having also grabbed the opening goal in three of the last four meetings with Brentford, should continue that trend.
