Los Angeles Thieves vs Carolina Royal Ravens Predictions

Vancouver Surge vs Toronto Ultra will face off on Sunday, March 2, in the Call of Duty League (CDL) 2025 Stage 2 Minor semifinals. It’ll mark their first clash since Major 1, when Ultra won, but they will have a more challenging time this time out.

The Vancouver Surge have looked like an entirely different team since the arrival of Neptune. The whole team started performing better, and the Surge improved their win rate across all three game modes.

Initially, it seemed like just a flash in the pan, but the Surge head into this match fresh off a massive victory against Atlanta FaZe, which is a good indication of what they’re capable of.

Toronto Ultra, on the other hand, deserve recognition for making it to the semifinals. Still, they’ve had a very easy schedule and did not look particularly good in the Stage 2 Major Qualifiers either.

Vancouver Surge will be very tough to stop for Toronto Ultra.

  • Vancouver Surge are on a five-game winning streak
  • Ultra have had a very soft schedule
  • The right team is favoured; this is Surge’s game to lose

Head to Head

Vancouver Surge and Toronto Ultra last met during CDL 2025 Stage 1 Major, when Toronto Ultra won.

  • Toronto Ultra 3-0 Vancouver Surge – January 30, 2025

Vancouver Surge Form

Vancouver Surge lost to Toronto Ultra in their last meeting during CDL 2025 Stage 1 Major, but this time around, it will be different. At the time, the Surge were still playing with Hicksy, who was since replaced with Neptune.

Neptune’s arrival also marked a huge turning point for the Surge, who started performing better. They improved across all three game modes, and there was a noticeable improvement in the individual players’ performances.

Since adding Neptune, the Surge have yet to taste defeat and are on a five-game winning streak. That includes victories against Atlanta FaZe (3-1), Cloud9 New York (3-2), LA Guerrillas M8, Boston Breach (3-1) and FaZe, who Vancouver Surge bested 3-2 in the CDL 2025 Stage 2 Minor quarterfinals.

Toronto Ultra Form

Toronto Ultra had a promising start to the season, finishing CDL 2025 Stage 1 Major Qualifiers in second place with a 6-1 record. However, since then, the Ultra have failed to look as potent.

They ended their Major 1 campaign in fifth-sixth place and have managed a rather underwhelming 3-2 record since the start of the second stage.

This includes losses to LA Thieves (0-3) and C9NY (0-3) and wins against Carolina Royal Ravens (3-1), Boston Breach (3-2), and OpTic Texas (3-0), who Ultra bested in Minor 2 quarterfinals. Compared to Surge, that is a very soft schedule.

Verdict

There is no denying that the Vancouver Surge have been playing much better than the Toronto Ultra since the start of CDL 2025 Stage 2. They’ve beaten FaZe twice and seem to be improving with each passing game. And while beating FaZe alone is an accomplishment, the most recent win proved that Surge can perform on LAN.

Besides the eye test, there are also stats which confirm that Surge are the superior team, with a better win rate across all three game modes: Hardpoint (55% vs 47.4%), Search & Destroy (53.3% vs 50%), and Control (54.5% vs 50%).

These numbers are not entirely representative of the teams’ strength as Ultra have not looked as good recently, whereas the Surge have been improving.
