Toronto Ultra and Vancouver Surge will face off on Friday, March 14, in the final week of Call of Duty League (CDL) 2025 Stage 2 Major Qualifiers. It will mark their fourth meeting of the season, and like the most recent clash, this one is expected to end in Surge's favour.

Vancouver Surge swept Toronto Ultra (3-0) in their last meeting at the start of the month and are anticipated to secure another victory this Friday. However, since Minor 2, Toronto Ultra have looked better, whereas the Surge seem to have slowed down, which could be a perfect recipe for an upset win.

By the betting odds, Toronto Ultra winning would be an upset. But based on what the two teams have shown recently, Surge losing would not be the most shocking outcome.

Toronto Ultra managed a 2-0 record last weekend, with wins against Vegas Falcons (3-1) and OpTic Texas (3-0). It's been a long time coming for the Ultra who have been playing solid CoD this season but have also had some struggles.

Admittedly, losing a map against the Falcons does not look good, but Toronto Ultra had a much better showing against OpTic, whom they crushed with 250-155 on Hardpoint, 6-3 on Search & Destroy, and 3-0 on Control.

Toronto Ultra were due to stronger showings, as this is a well-rounded and experienced team with a very deep map pool, and no clear weaknesses. While they lack the raw quality of Atlanta FaZe and LA Thieves, Toronto Ultra are one of the better mid-table squads in the league.

Vancouver Surge Form

Vancouver Surge looked great at the start of CDL 2025 Stage 2 and during CDL 2025 Minor 2, where they reached the finals. However, they did not look great last weekend when Surge got crushed by LA Thieves (0-3) and did not play a particularly convincing series against Miami Heretics (3-1) either.

Two rough games do not take away from Surge's past success; however, it is also hard to feel overly optimistic about Surge and their chances to deliver against a well-rounded team like Toronto Ultra.

Vancouver Surge swept Toronto Ultra at the start of the month, so it is not surprising to see them priced as favourites for the rematch. However, Toronto Ultra have since been playing much better, whereas Surge have looked worse in their recent two outings.

The teams are trending in the opposite direction, and while it may be too soon to say that Ultra are the better team heading into this match, I'll gladly take their side of this contest at the offered betting odds.
