Team Vitality and Team Liquid will cross swords on Friday, March 14, in the first round of ESL Pro League Season 21 playoffs, marking their first clash of the season.

Team Vitality are billed as a firm favourites to defeat Liquid on Friday. They have been in excellent form since February, when they won Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025.

On the other side, Team Liquid have done enough to reach the ESL Pro League Season 21 knockout stage, but they've not found much success in Katowice, nor did they look too convincing in their recent three wins.

While Team Liquid are a solid Counter-Strike 2 team, they have yet to prove they can compete against top-rated teams, so it is hard to imagine them turning it around on Friday.

Team Vitality enter the ESL Pro League Season 21 playoffs as one of the leading favourites to win the tournament and add to their IEM Katowice 2025 title, which they won in February.

Despite the long, one-month break, Team Vitality continued where they left off and ended ESL Pro League Season 21 Stage 2 with a perfect 3-0 record, beating MIBR, 3DMAX, and MOUZ. They did drop one map against MIBR (2-1), but they can be excused for it as Vitality were a bit rusty.

Since the beginning of the year, Team Vitality has lost just two games, which is a good indication of their current situation.

Team Liquid Form

Team Liquid have not found much success in 2025, mainly due to their inability to outperform other top squads. They placed ninth-16th at BLAST Bounty Spring 2025 and ninth-12th at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025.

At ESL Pro League Season 21, Liquid showed a bit more, having beaten FURIA, Eternal Fire, and 3DMAX, but they were no match for MOUZ and Team Falcons, which sums up their main issue: Liquid can't beat top-rated teams.

While Team Liquid have the tools to do well in the biggest events, they've yet to show that side of them. And until they do, it is more than fair to doubt them and their chances to make a deep run in S-Tier tournaments.

Team Vitality are billed as firm favourites to defeat Team Liquid, and there are not many reasons to believe otherwise. Even though Liquid can do well on a good day, they've not shown enough lately for me to consider them to be a serious threat for Vitality, who enter this match on an eight-game winning streak.

Barring any significant surprises, Vitality should sweep.
