The inaugural League of Legends First Stand 2025 tournament concluded on Sunday, March 16, with LoL Champions Korea (LCK) representatives Hanwha Life Esports beating Karmine Corp 3-1 in the grand finals.

With that, the Korean powerhouse became the first-ever champions of the new LoL esports tournament, retaining the position as sole candidates to claim the elusive Golden Road.

Hanwha Life Esports entered First Stand 2025 as the leading favourites, next to China’s Top Esports, as the two teams were billed as the main candidates to claim the trophy by pundits and betting sites

While Top Esports failed to live up to expectations, Hanwha Life Esports did exactly what was expected of them.

The Korean champions kicked off First Stand 2025 with a perfect 4-0 run through the group stage, during which they bested Karmine Corp, Top Esports, Team Liquid, and CTBC Flying Oyster.

They kept their momentum going in the knockout stage, adding another victory against their main rivals, Top Esports, whom HLE bested 3-0 in a very one-sided affair.

After a 5-0 run, Hanwha Life Esports entered the First Stand 2025 grand finals as firm favourites to defeat the LoL EMEA Championship (LEC) representatives, Karmine Corp. Even though KC were all but written off as potential champions, the European side quickly proved they had come to fight and took the opening map off Hanwha Life Esports.

That was, however, the first and only small victory Karmine Corp got to taste on Sunday.

Hanwha Life Esports kept their heads cool and tied the series 1-1 with a slow, methodical approach in map two.

Despite the game being anything but bloody, Hanwha Life Esports managed to dominate all neutral objectives and slowly chipped away at Karmine Corp who eventually crumbled under the pressure.

The third map was the polar opposite, ending with 39 kills across both teams, yet most belonged to Hanwha Life Esports who accumulated 28, all while keeping a firm hold at neutral objectives.

By the fourth and final map of the series, Karmine Corp seemed to have run out of steam as they could not find a response to Hanwha Life Esports.

The Korean representatives took control of the game early and accumulated over 6k gold lead by 20 minutes and needed just 16 more to get to Karmine Corp’s Nexus.

Despite their best efforts, Karmine Corp proved toothless against Hanwha Life Esports, who spoiled the French team’s international debut, sending them back home with a bitter-sweep silver medal.

With the conclusion of First Stand 2025, the Tier-1 LoL esports scene goes on a short break before the major region leagues resume in March-April, starting with LEC 2025 Spring, which is set to kick off on March 29, 2025.
