FunPlus Phoenix have not had the best start to the 2025 season, as they fell against Royal Never Give Up (1-3) in the second week of play. Ninjas in Pyjamas, on the other side, took down Invictus Gaming (3-1), which was a very promising sign for this new lineup and how far they can go.

On paper and results-wise Ninjas in Pyjamas appear as the better team, but you have to ask yourself how much weight can we put on just one game. Moreover, both teams have had a long time to prepare for this match, so I would not count out a closer game.

It felt like a bad loss, which should not have happened, but it is really hard to say how much FPX deserve after seeing them perform in just one series.

This is a capable roster of solid and experience players, so FPX should not be written off entirely.

Ninjas in Pyjamas formed a very potent lineup this offseason, adding some of the top talent in the region. And they managed to utilise their strength in LPL 2025 Split 1 Week 2, when NiP bested Invictus Gaming 3-1.

It was a good display from the new-look Ninjas in Pyjamas, but it is again fair to ask how much does that win really mean. NiP were sizeable underdogs for their clash with IG, and the favourites did not seem like they had a good day either.

This does not take away from the fact that NiP have a high ceiling, but I’ll need to see more from them before I start giving out praise.

FunPlus Phoenix v Ninjas in Pyjamas

Ninjas in Pyjamas are sizeable favourites for this match even though we have not seen much from either squad. NiP’s win against IG was praiseworthy, but it could’ve been a fluke and likewise, FPX’s loss to RNG did not feel right.

NiP’s roster looks much better, but looking better and performing better over a long period of time are two entirely different things.
