Eternal Fire and paiN Gaming were both billed as dark horses to make a deep run at ESL Pro League Season 21 following strong showings in some of the biggest events earlier this season. Yet they’ve both struggled to perform so far.
Realistically, there is not much to separate them quality-wise, yet EF are billed as firm favourites, which is hard to justify. Even though paiN Gaming’s struggles are more noticeable, I would not consider them to be significantly weaker – at least not as much as the latest esports betting odds suggest.
So, as much as this might be EF’s game to lose, paiN Gaming at 3.40 is worth a look.
- Eternal Fire are favouired
- Both teams have been struggling
- At outsider odds, paiN Gamig are worth a look
Head to Head
This will mark the first clash between Eternal Fire and paiN Gaming of the season.
Eternal Fire Form
Eternal Fire entered ESL Pro League Season 21 as dark horses to compete for the trophy, but so far, they’ve yet to show anything spectacular. The Turkish outfit made it through the first stage with a 3-1 record, having beaten Mindfrerak, NRG, and FlyQuest, but they’ve been far less successful in Stage 2.
In the second stage of the tournament, the Turkish squad lost to 3DMAX (0-2), bested MIBR (2-0), and lost to Team Liquid in the previous round without winning a map (0-2). They got a bit unlucky in the series, as EF lost Inferno 11-13 and had to admit defeat to Liquid in overtime on Train (17-19).
A loss is still a loss, but EF showed some good things and could’ve won had a few rounds ended differently.
Eternal Fire Squad & Team News
Eternal Fire have not announced any roster changes.
- İsmailсan "XANTARES" Dörtkardeş
- Engin "MAJ3R" Küpeli
- Ali "Wicadia" Haydar Yalçın
- Özgür "woxic" Eker

PaiN Gaming Form
PaiN Gaming, like Eternal Fire, were expected to do some damage at ESL Pro League Season 21 following their strong showing at PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 last month. However, things have not gone as planned for the Brazilians.
PaiN barely made it through the first stage with a 3-2 record, and they’ve managed just one victory in the second stage – against GamerLegion (2-1) – and lost the other two against G2 Esports (0-2) and Natus Vincere (0-2).
In the latter, paiN set themselves up nicely to win the first map of the series (Train) but failed to perform in overtime and lost 14-16. The second map, Mirage, was a one-sided trashing from NaVi, who won 13-6.
In paiN Gaming’s defence, they had to play two elite teams in the second stage, but that does not mean they are excused for their rough displays.

- Rodrigo "biguzera" Bittencourt
- Kaue "kauez" Kaschuk
- Lucas "nqz" Soares

Verdict
PaiN Gaming and Eternal Fire are two teams who deserve a lot of respect for what they’ve shown over the last few months, and they both entered ESL Pro League Season 21 as dark horses to make it far. Yet neither performed well enough.
According to the betting odds, this is Eternal Fire’s game to lose, but I would argue that the gap between the two squads is not as significant as those numbers suggest.

Neither team performed well enough to confidently say they can win, and even though paiN Gaming’s downfall is more noticeable, I am ready to take a stab at the Brazilian squad at the offered number.
