EDward Gaming vs ThunderTalk Gaming Predictions

EDward Gaming and ThunderTalk will face off on Tuesday, January 21, in the second round of Group C at League of Legends Pro League (LPL) 2025 Split 1. It will mark their first clash of the season, and according to the latest esports betting odds, ThunderTalk Gaming are expected to win.

Seeing ThunderTalk priced as favourites seems a bit off; however, it is not like they do not deserve recognition for their potential and what they showed in the first round. While not an elite-tier team, TT Gaming are not to be underestimated.

EDward Gaming haven't had a chance to leave a good impression this season (yet), as they had to face Bilibili Gaming, who crushed them 3-0 in the first round of the group stage. A 0-3 loss is rough, but it's BLG, so what can you do?

EDward Gaming are probably better than how they seemed against Bilibili Gaming, but that's purely speculative. On the other side, ThunderTalk Gaming already proved they can perform and are in my book, the clear choice here.

  • EDG had a rough start to the season
  • ThunderTalk enter round 2 in great form
  • ThunderTalk are in a better spot to win

Head to Head

EDward Gaming and ThunderTalk Gaming have yet to meet this season.

EDward Gaming Form

EDward Gaming got steamrolled by Bilibili Gaming in the first match of LPL 2025 Split 1, but that is hardly surprising and more expected than anything else.

While EDG's loss to BLG is not any indication of how EDward Gaming will do against other teams, I am not too excited about this squad.

Even though EDward Gaming put together a roster of experienced players, they are nothing more than that – veteran players who are pretty average quality-wise. With experienced players, EDG likely will not be one of the bottom teams, but they wil not be great either.

EDward Gaming Squad & Team News

EDward Gaming have not made any roster changes since the start of the season.

  • Zhu "Zdz" Dezhang – top lane
  • Peng "Xiaohao" Hao – jungle
  • Xiang "Angel" Tao – mid lane
  • Zou "Assum" Wei – ADC
  • Zhang "Wink" Rui – support

ThunderTalk Gaming Form

ThunderTalk Gaming started LPL 2025 Split 1 with a solid 3-1 victory against LNG Esports. The game could have easily ended in a 3-0 sweep, but a few misplays cost TT Gaming one map. Nevertheless, still a solid showing from the perpetual underdogs.

Most of the TT Gaming roster performed on the day, even Song "SeTab" Kyeong-jin, who played a solid series in his debut, aside from a few misplays.

As it seems, TT Gaming will again be a potent team who, like in 2024, will not be getting much respect, even though they posted solid results last season. For this match, however, TT Gaming are priced as favourites, which does not surprise me.

ThunderTalk Gaming Squad & Team News

ThunderTalk Gaming have not made any roster changes.

  • Yoon "Hoya" Yong-ho – top lane
  • Yang "Beichuan" Ling – jungle
  • Song "SeTab" Kyeong-jin – mid lane
  • Li "1xn" Xiunan – ADC
  • Wangtian "Feather" Cifu – support

Verdict

It is not wise to overreact to EDward Gaming's rough loss against BIlibili Gaming, as BLG are on another level. Moreover, it is easy to look bad when you're up against a significantly stronger team.

Still, EDward Gaming looked very rough on the day and did not seem like they are on the same page, which is worrying and could be a problem on Tuesday. If EDG do not improve their communication and teamplay, they will struggle, and that's what I expect to happen.

ThunderTalk Gaming are not an elite team and have roughly the same ceiling as EDG. But they looked clean in the season opener, and that performance was enough for me to have faith in them.
