On Monday, December 9, 2024, Astralis announced the return of Nicolai “device” Reedtz, who re-joins the Danish team after a short break from professional Counter-Strike.

Besides announcing device’s return, Astralis also revealed that they have terminated Alexander “br0” Bro’s contract, allowing the player to explore his options as a free agent.

Device, who was one of the inaugural members of Astralis’ Counter-Strike roster, re-joined the team in October 2022 after a short and largely underwhelming stint with Ninjas in Pyjamas.

Serving as a starting player of Astralis since his return, device announced in November that he will take a break from pro play and focus on his health following the recurrence of stress-related health challenges he has been dealing with.

As a result, device did not join the Danish squad on their Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 European RMR B campaign, which Astralis ended without a Major ticket in their hands.
In place of device, who stepped away from the roster just over a week before the start of European RMR B, Astralis fielded br0, who has been benched from the active lineup since mid-September.

However, even though br0 posted a positive performance rating at the RMR, Astralis exited the event in ninth-11th place, with defeats against 9Pandas, Sashi Esports, and Passion UA.

It marked another disappointing tournament placement for the Danish team, who have been struggling with their results throughout the 2024 esports season.

Astralis peaked at no.7 in the global rankings in May after managing promising top-four finishes at Intel Extreme Masters Chengdu 2024, ESL Pro League Season 19, CCT Season 1 Global Finals, and YaLLa Compass 2024.

However, since then, Astralis have been lacking and have managed just one more notable result: reaching the semifinals of BLAST Premier: World Final 2024, but could not translate that success to the RMR.

With device back in the roster, Astralis can now set their eyes on the 2025 season, which will begin with BLAST Bounty Season 1
