Astralis enter the 2025 season with a lot to prove after showing some signs of improvement, whereas Wildcard can feel confident with what they showed in the final months of 2024. Still, while Wildcard deserve some recognition, they have overperformed and are unlikely to keep their wheels spinning here.

Astralis enter the 2025 season with an unchanged roster for the first time in a very long time. This, however, comes with an asterisk, as Astralis will welcome back Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz, who took a break from competing in late 2024 and did not help his squad on their Major campaign.

This would explain Astralis' lacklustre finish to the 2024 season, as they did not make it through Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: European RMR B, ending the event in ninth-11th place. However, the Danes should do better with the AWPer returning.

The last tournament Astralis played with dev1ce was BLAST Premier: World Final 2024, where they made the semifinals. Even before that, Astralis showed good things and performed better than how they did in the second half of 2024.

They still have a lot to prove, but things are looking up for Astralis.

Astralis have made no roster changes this offseason, although they will welcome back Nicolai "dev1ce" Reedtz, who took a competitive break at the end of 2024.

Wildcard Form

Wildcard had a fantastic ending to 2024 by their standards. They stunned the world by winning Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024: American RMR but failed to show much in Shanghai, exiting the Major in 15th-16th-place.

In their defence, Wildcard bested Fnatic, Virtus.pro, and Passion UA, and they played a close game against FaZe Clan (10-13). However, that miracle run does not change the fact that Wildcard are a second-division team and unlikely to succeed at this level of play.

Verdict

Astralis v Wildcard

It is easy to cheer on the underdogs, in this case, Wildcard. They had an amazing run in late 2024 and even played a few competitive games against stronger teams.

Astralis, on the other side, failed to deliver to the expectaitons, but they were missing their key player, so their lack of success in late 2024 does not mean much.

Astralis showed some signs of improvement before dev1ce took a break, and if they can get back on track and continue where they left off, Astralis should not struggle to make it to BLAST Bounty LAN finals.
