The MongolZ have had a very impressive start to the year, reaching the semifinals of Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025, and are now in an excellent position to make another deep tournament run. On the other side, Astralis have been playing very poorly since the turn of the year and can feel lucky they’ve made it this far.

This match is a perfect opportunity for Astralis to reclaim their tag as a Tier-1 team, but based on their recent form, that will be much easier said than done.

Astralis can feel very lucky to be in the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 playoffs. They’ve not had the best run through the Swiss Stage, as they barely reached the fifth round, and their only three wins of the group stage came against SAW, MIBR, and BIG, which are not the most formidable opponents.

Even before their PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 campaign, Astralis have not shown anything inspiring and their run at Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025 did not indicate that the Danes are a proper tier-1 team.

It’s hard to pinpoint what’s wrong with Astralis, as they have the players needed to compete for the biggest trophies. However, until they show something against other elite teams, it is hard to feel overly optimistic about Astralis and their chances to win PGL’s event.

The MongolZ Form

The MongolZ had an explosive start to the 2025 season. Following an extended break from pro play, The MongolZ made the semifinals of Intel Extreme Masters Katowice 2025, with wins against Liquid, GamerLegion, and Eternal Fire ahead of a competitive loss against the eventual champions, Team Vitality.

Prior to their deep run in Poland, The MongolZ reached the quarterfinals of Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, and before that, in November, they won the Thunderpick World Championship 2024. it's a very impressive resume and a good indication of how strong the Mongolian outfit are.

They’ve looked like serious contenders for big events, and while they came close a couple of times, PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 could be their first real chance at a big event trophy.

Verdict

Astralis v The MongolZ

It is hard to imagine anything else than a 2-0 sweep for The MongolZ. They’ve been on top of their game since late 2024 and their run at IEM Katowice 2025, as well as during the PGL Cluj-Napoca 2025 Swiss Stage is an indication enough to believe they will be tough to stop.

While there are teams remaining in the tournament who can cause MongolZ issues, that team is not Astralis. The Danes have been in bad shape for a while now and with no wins against notable tier-1 opponents to their name, Astralis do not seem like a dangerous opponent.
